Seed
She woke up in the middle of the night. Not with a start, more like a gliding from one world into the other. She rubbed her eyes and noticed that light was piercing through the curtains. She set her feet on the floor. The boards were still emitting the warmth they had stored during the day and their creaking and grinding accompanied her all the way to the window. When she shoved the curtains aside she saw with joy that the ray of sunshine that she had dug into the bed in Spring had grown into a mature plant.
